Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center
Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government | Lexington, KY
Originally built in 1948, The Lyric Theatre was renovated by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government as the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center. The project included complete renovation of the historic theatre building (12,000 GSF) and a major new cultural arts addition (16,000 GSF). The Mayor-appointed Lyric Task Force and a public input process established the building program and involved citizens of the East End neighborhood. These community input meetings continued throughout design, resulting in a project fulfilling many aspirations and dreams. The core of this project was not a high-style historic building; rather a deeply treasured history of community, where all citizens of Lexington could gather for an evening of movies or superb performances.
Designed to be a LEED certified building with energy and environment being integral to design decisions, this project achieved this goal by earning LEED Gold certification thus becoming LFUCG’s first LEED Certified building.
