FCPS Tates Creek High School Exterior

Tates Creek High School

Fayette County Public Schools | Lexington, KY
Vying with Frederick Douglass High School for status as the most energy efficient school in the nation, the new approximately 350,000 sf Tates Creek High School showcases the Small Learning Communities of the school’s career academies and incorporates community-based programs such as a Medical Clinic and a Life Skills Center. This new high school models sustainability and energy efficiency with natural daylighting, all LED lighting, geo-thermal HVAC, and an ICF building envelope. The siting of the new high school building presented the opportunity for overall campus improvements to benefit the high school, middle school and elementary school.

Local news station WKYT featured a story about Tates Creek High School’s storm shelter (click here to watch). For a video from the Lexington Herald-Leader of the new Baseball-Softball Complex, click here.

Student Drawings

As an exercise for his students, Tates Creek High School Art Teacher Mike Holdren tasked them with drawing exterior elevations of their new school. We were so thrilled to see their work, that we asked for permission to share their drawings here!
